Symptoms of a house centipede bite: know how to treat it if it happens to you!

It is important to recognize the symptoms of a house centipede bite. They’re also easy to spot, if you know what to look for. Before I tell you how to recognize the symptoms of a centipede bite, I’d like to clear up a simple misunderstanding.

Centipede bites don’t really hurt, in fact most centipedes wouldn’t be able to bite your skin. The hind ends of centipedes, however, have a stinger. This stinger injects poison into its prey, or whatever it stings. The symptoms are usually mild, but there have been cases where they could be dangerous. These are rare, and you can be sure that house centipedes will not pose a threat to your health.

Most of the time it hurts much less than a bee sting, and if it hurts too much, taking an aspirin or two helps. It could be two raised lumps, surrounded by very red, irritated skin. There could also be some swelling. If your swelling is, apply a cold compress to reduce it. If it’s just bread, a hot bag would be better.

If the centipede bite itches, apply an anti-itch cream such as hydrocortisone. Wash the area with soap and water, you don’t want any infection. Just to be sure, let me reiterate, most house centipede bites you probably won’t feel. However, if you wake up with any of the symptoms of a house centipede bite that I’ve outlined above and you know house centipedes are present, you should watch out. Also remember that if you are ever unsure where the bite came from, it is best to seek medical attention from a doctor.
