Improve Your Golf Swing With These 6 Beginner Tips That Will Steadily Lower Scores

The physics behind a good golf swing is simply mind-boggling. After putting aside the fact that the body is required to roll back and forth in methods the body was not intended to do, a golfer performs the motion of a golf swing in the hope of being able to hit a golf ball. Golf regularly within a 1/2 inch margin of error on the face of a golf club that determines 4 inches in length. That is asking for a lot of science.

Fortunately, a novice golfer can learn to use muscle memory training to create a golf swing that delivers consistent results on a consistent basis. This can be accomplished with a couple of lessons from a skilled professional, lots of practice, and a few helpful tips.

1. Holding a golf club – Newbies often have trouble developing proper hand placement on the golf club. The trick is not to fight what the body does naturally. Place your hands to the sides, look at the natural angle of your hands with the stick resting in the groin area, squat down and grip the stick at that same specific angle, placing your 2 thumbs pointing directly down the stick in the grip.

2. The grip – Now that you have the correct grip on the stick, you have 3 grips to choose from.

Varden Grip: Overlap the little finger of the lower hand between the index and middle fingers of the upper hand

Interlocking grip: similar to the Varden grip, except that it locks the little finger with the index finger

Baseball grip: hold it like a baseball bat

3. Posture – relaxed, feet wide apart, the inside of the shoulder pointing at the target.

4. Basic swing – On the backswing, you want to lift the club by turning your inner wort slightly inward while moving your weight towards the ball of your rear foot until the club lines up over your head and your rear arm is L-shaped, then step back on your swing down by releasing your L-shaped arm and shifting your weight to the front foot with full tracking. Keep your eyes on the back of the ball.

5. Develop a swing rhythm – Regardless of the club you are using, you want to establish a constant mental rhythm in your swing, which will eventually produce consistent results. This is accomplished with practice and more practice.

6. Don’t sway too much – With the right grip, body position, swing and rhythm, you will generate the right power to send the ball down the fairway. Nothing is accomplished by lifting your back and letting your swing fly.

Next time you go to the range, you should practice the basics using these tips and keeping it simple. Once you’ve got your golf swing on dry land, you’ll have plenty of time to figure out ways to produce more power and precision.
