Bollywood, originating from Hindi, is the loose term popularly used for the Mumbai-based Hindi-language film industry (Hindi cinema) in India. The term is frequently misused to refer to the entirety of Indian cinema; when it is just a part of the Indian film industry. Bollywood is the largest film production company in India and one of the largest in the world.

The name is a portmanteau (widely used to mean a combination of two (or more) words) of Bombay (the old name for Mumbai) and Hollywood, the heart of the American film industry (as most of us well know). Unlike Hollywood, however, Bollywood exists as an actual physical place that you can visit. Although some deplore the name, indicating that it makes the industry look like a lackluster cousin to Hollywood, it seems likely that it will prevail and now has its own entry in the Oxford English Dictionary. When I think of Bollywood, I don’t really see it as something different, I just see it as a kind of movie!

You never know if you’re going to like something unless you try it, right? And hey, you don’t know, it could be something that you would really love, are you willing to miss out on something like that? I don’t believe it!
