Lumps in the testicles are not always a sign of testicular cancer: other causes of a lump in the testicle

Before going into detail about testicular lumps and causes, know that not all lumps found within or on the testicle are the result of cancer. Although a known symptom of cancer, don’t let it worry you until all other reasons why the lump is there are identified as not the cause.

Yes, testicular cancer is usually associated with a lump, but just as typical, it is also genital trauma, so don’t panic at this point as we examine other reasons and causes for a lump.

It is clear that because you are reading this you care about yourself or the well-being of another person, do you not want to talk to a doctor about the testicular lump that you have felt? I get it, you are scared and dumb. What fears you is the diagnosis they can give you. Are you embarrassed to speak up and ask for help? I suggest you get closer because not everything that comes out of a doctor’s mouth is sinister.

1. Let’s look at the testicular cyst, a common problem for men. Cysts located in the testicle do not mean that it is cancerous. Cysts feel soft and are growths filled with milky or clear fluid.) The size of the cysts can vary, becoming small or large (swollen). They are not known to cause pain.

2. Could the epididymis be what you are experiencing? The epididymis is a tube-like structure connected to the testis with the vas deferens. This condition confuses many into thinking that lumps are present. The epididymis is located at the back of each testicle and, if it swells, it can mislead the observer. An inflamed epididymis is known as epididymitis. Young men tend to be treated for hundreds of sexually transmitted infections (gonorrhea and chlamydia) apparently because epididymitis is a complication of both diseases.

3. The common cause of a lump or bulge is a hernia that is recognized as a loop of the intestine that protrudes through openings in the abdominal wall and causes swelling. This now joins between the upper leg (thigh) and the abdomen (groin region). A hernia may not stay in the same place and move into the scrotum. An inguinal hernia is often diagnosed in men due to probable weakness in the groin and abdominal wall. Not all hernias, unless they are enlarged or painful, a man will know he has it.

Four. Hydrocele / Varicocele: Hydrocele occurs mainly in front of the testicles. If a doctor has confirmed that you have this, then what you have is a collection of harmless sterile fluid in the cord connected to the testicle. The hydrocele can grow to an uncomfortable stage where drainage becomes a primary option to prevent the mass from enlarging. Varicocele occurs due to enlargement of the blood vessels. Both conditions may require surgery depending on your condition, especially if there is an infection that causes pressure on the blood vessels.

5. Insect bites can cause an infection in the scrotum, as can sexually transmitted diseases.

6. Pain is imminent if you get kicked between the legs, as bruising, swelling, and lumps are likely. Pain that does not go away after a couple of hours should be controlled. Persistent pain and bloody urine are not good and therefore medical assistance is required to stop bleeding in the testicles.

7. A twisted spermatic cord is caused by a painful condition called testicular torsion, also considered dangerous. If this is not treated in time, the affected testicle may need to be removed. Torsion prevents blood from reaching the testicle, preventing the tissue it needs from surviving. Torsion pain will continue until medical help is received. The process to solve this includes a surgery in which the testicle is manipulated to return to its correct position. It is vital that the surgery be performed immediately to avoid complications. Some surgeries to stop future twisting will include both testicles sewn to the scrotum.

Symptoms and signs that indicate that you see a doctor.

  • Anal bulge

  • Discharge from the penis

  • Scrotum pain

  • Sting

  • Redness

  • Inflammation

  • Package

  • Bruises

  • Bloody urine

Although pain relievers and a cold, wet compress are a great form of relief, they will never remove a lump in the testicle if it is caused by something other than an everyday injury. These are good treatments for minor trauma, but that’s about it. Be sensible and seek help sooner rather than later.
